The Guardian seems pretty convinced that five people will be interviewed by Lord Patten and Diane Coyle for the BBC DG job - four insiders and one external.
The external must be Ed Richards of Ofcom - and the politics of the game suggest to me that he'll progress past this preliminary stage, on June 11 and 12 - to a final interview with a wider selection of Trustees. So that means hand-to-hand fighting between the four insiders for, probably, two places at the final hurdle. The Guardian says Caroline Thomson and Tim Davie are definitely through to the preliminaries - the presumption is that the others are George Entwistle and Helen Boaden. The dilemma for their various campaign teams - spend time on rubbishing each other - or combine to fight off The Threat of Ed ?
