Scratchings

Operation Black Vote's Simon Woolley says his chum Trevor Phillips "is being seriously considered to be the next Chair of the BBC", quoting a "senior Government source". In 2012, Trev took part in a Royal Television Society evening, entitled "If I ran the BBC...", one of those events in which people unlikely to ever do the job opine for the amusement of others. Fellow panellists were Lorraine Heggessey, John Whittingdale and the then Rt Hon James Purnell.

The average salary of a Grade 8 BBC Human Resource manager is £43k. Dear-departed Lucy Adams, as Director of these worker ants, was on a 7.75 multiple. Her successor, Valerie Hughes-D-Aeth, arrives this month from Amey; as her staff contemplate the affordability of season tickets from London to Birmingham, they'll also be keen to see where her salary lands...

Interserve, the construction and services group which this year landed the contract for the upkeep of most BBC premises, has seen six-monthly profits rise by 36% on its improved order book.
