Better off elsewhere

NUJ and Bectu officials with a strike mandate itching in their pockets will be entertained by a new assertion about BBC Executive pay.

According to their own benchmarking exercise in January this year, the BBC says six executive board members are paid at a discount of 60% or more to the market value of their role - in one case, the discount is 80% or more.

In response to a Freedom of Information request, Auntie says "The BBC has benchmarked its executive directors to comparable roles of similar size, scope and remit in the commercial sector. This is a selection of private sector firms comparable to the BBC in terms of size and/or other media companies. For executive directors, the BBC engages an external consultancy to independently benchmark the pay of each executive director to comparable roles in the commercial (private) sector."

There are seven BBC employees on the board - Hall, Bulford, Purnell, Boaden, Harding, Cohen and Davie, and one suspects Tim Davie's deal is 'special'. So which of the remainder could be earning packets elsewhere, I wonder ?
