Winning

Lord Hall, standing in for James Harding away on a Future-of-News Hunt in Californ-i-ay, was in Hull last night presenting the annual BBC Local Radio awards named after Frank Gillard.

His stricture - that women should be presenters (or co-presenters) on 50% of breakfast shows by the end of this year - must have passed the judges by.

Without taking anything away from the winners, we note that Toby Foster (left) of Radio Sheffield carried away the Breakfast Gold; Iain Lee of Three Counties won Best Presenter; Rony Robinson of Radio Sheffield bagged both Best Mid-Morning host and Best Interview, as well as an Outstanding Contribution award. Tracy Gee of Radio Leeds came out fighting for the women, winning Gold for Journalist of the Year for a second time. Station of the Year, Radio WM, boasts a single male breakfast host.
