Hill climb

Polly Hill, new custodian of Original British Drama at the BBC, comes from good stock for the job - and has an already impressive track record of commissions from indies. Her current spell with Auntie started in 2004, and has produced Wolf Hall, The Gruffalo, A Passionate Woman, The Honourable Woman, Death In Paradise, Hustle, The Silence and The Missing. This viewer would rather pass over Inspector George Gently, Ripper Street and The White Queen. She studied drama at Manchester University and had a spell as a script editor at Granada (as did her younger predecessor Ben Stephenson) and at the the BBC.

Partner Tim worked as generator operator on Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and has an extensive list of credits as best boy, gaffer and electrician on films and tv dramas.

Father Dave is perhaps best known as Bert Atkinson in EastEnders and Alan in The Full Monty. He's also been in Rocket Man, Foyle’s War, Doctors, Linda Green, The Ice House, Chef, Grange Hill and The Monocled Mutineer (also featuring wife Jane)  Other films include Bob Hoskins' The Raggedy Rawney (with Jane again) and When Saturday Comes.

Mother Jane Wood goes back to Crossroads and Z-Cars, through Emmerdale, The Bill, and three different characters in both Casualty and Holby City. Films include Precious Bane and Vera Drake.

In the 2009 Kniftas, she won the 'Funniest Knitting/Crochet Scene' category for her performance in Holby City:"Battle Of Who Could Care Less".
