Inadvertently

From the witness statement of BBC Newsgathering Editor Jonathan Munro, some insights into meetings and the general level of trust within BBC News.

"The decision whether to run the story and name the [sic] Sir Cliff Richard was to be taken by senior editorial figures in BBC News at 12.15pm that day. I was brief shortly afterwards, and the decision was to hold our reporting until our main BBC1 lunchtime news at 1pm. I had been unable to join the decision making meeting as I was in another meeting at that time."

"I was involved in an unusual process of ensuring that the helicopter images (which are normally viewable live in the newsroom) were switched off during filming because we did not intend to run the story until 13:00. We were keen to avoid any programme editor inadvertently opting to air such pictures live and to keep the story contained to the limited number of people who needed to know about it at that stage".
