Some head-scratching this morning at suggestions floated by Broadcast and The Guardian that Lord Hall is pursuing Peter Barron for a return to the editor's chair - Siege Perilous - at Newsnight. Peter left Newsnight in 2008 for Google, and has since had two promotions. It may be more realistic, in terms of salary expectations, to think that Lord Hall is circling Pete for some slightly bigger role. Or maybe Peter started it.

Peter's Twitter account is not heavily used; the only mild editorial interventions by Tweet since he left Auntie have been to chide the Today Programme, and to encourage jamming partner Krishnan Guru-Murthy to lead C4 News with an obituary of Gil Scott-Heron.

There's a little more going on with his Youtube channel, where clearly Google has given the axe-man time to explore his more mellow side.
