Game up ?

Work on the BBC News Channel or BBC World News ? This is quite an intervention from Richard Sambrook, former Director of News and Director of Global News at Auntie.

Thesis: 24-hour tv news channels have had their day; they are "dysfunctional in their impact and cost on the rest of the news organization", and will be absorbed in online services.

"People who are really interested will get the news from Twitter. The one thing the satellite channels could be really good at – news in depth and expanding the agenda – they don’t do".

The article, published in the World Today, summarises Sambrook's remarks to a Chatham House session for under-35s in October. So there's a saving for James Harding to contemplate....
